How dust forms in mines? Why dust control matters?

What are the biggest health risks of mining?

Miners are at risk of developing pneumoconiosis due to exposure to airborne respirable dust. This type of dust includes ultra-fine particles that people can inhale into their lung tissue, and miners are at an increased risk of dying from lung cancer. Therefore it is important to choose the right dust suppression systems. The fog cannon can be equipped with a multi-stage pump with a high number of stages matched with a small diameter nozzle so that the sprayed water mist particle diameter is controlled at 50-100micron. It can control the ultra-fine dust very well. During the spraying of the fog cannon, the dust becomes less visible to the naked eye and the air becomes visible.

  • Drilling and Blasting process

Exposure to respirable dust from drilling and blasting can lead to silicosis and other respiratory diseases. Dust-related lung disease is common among quarry workers. Communities near quarries are also at risk. Dust from quarry drilling and blasting operations must be managed at the source.

Local dust can be generated during the drilling process. The use of water is recommended to prevent this. The drilling rig usually has a fixed system to supply water to the borehole. If dust problems persist, we recommend the use of dust suppressors to suppress airborne dust. Also considering the scarcity and purity of water in the mine, the water supply of the dust suppression fog cannons must use double filtration, which means it is equipped with a Y-type filter as well as an industrial filter cup.

The blasting creates a lot of dust in the air. However, because blasting is a one-time activity, it does not continuously generate dust. At the moment of blasting in order to prevent the dust from spreading, it is recommended to use a long throw range fog cannon machine with a range of 100-120 meters.

  • Crushing process

Crushing mining materials generates large amounts of dust. Crushing is usually done outdoors, which makes it possible for the dust to spread over a large area.

  • Transportation process

Mine materials can be transported in different ways. Most materials are transported by conveyor and truck. The conveyor can be covered to prevent dust from spreading, but at the beginning and at the end other methods must be found to prevent dust from spreading. It is recommended to spray water with nozzles through a fixed system.

Truck transport can make the road dusty. The road surface can be treated with an adhesive substance or sprayed with water. At reloading stations, dust suppressors or stationary spray systems can capture dust with high efficiency.
